Colombo, Sri Lanka – Vesak is a Buddhist religious festival that celebrates Buddha’s Birth, his attainment of Enlightenment, and his journey into Nirvana. The whole city of Colombo will be resplendent with colorful lights, lanterns, and street theatre performances on 27 May 2010.

The celebration marks the Buddhist Calendar’s first month. The day is spent in deep prayer and people participate in religious activities.
